What to Expect

welcome-salem-lutheran-church-coloma

We are grateful to have you join us for worship.  Our mission, condensed, is to offer Christ-centered worship and Christian-based education through bible studies and preschool classes, all in an effort to fulfill that final command of Christ, "Go and make disciples of all nations."

Visiting a church can be stressful. But we want you to feel as welcome here as we do! In order to minimize any stress you may feel, here are our promises to you:

  • You need not be embarrassed by not knowing what to do and where to go. If you have questions, feel free to ask anyone, especially the pastor or our ushers who can usually be found in the narthex before and after worship.
  • You are not required to give an offering when you visit. During each service, we take special time to give a tithe as a way to give thanks to the Lord for His blessings to us. This means the offering plate will come near you. While you are free to place something in, it is not expected. If you would like to learn more about this part of worship, please ask the pastor before or after worship.
  • When you worship with us, you will receive the gift of God’s Word that will fill you with hope and direction for your week.
  • We will do our best to give you a message from God’s Word that fills you with hope and direction for a better week.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the service like?

Our worship is traditional, reflecting the history of God’s church and the gifts of His Word. Our service springs from a confessional Lutheran liturgy, inviting you to participate in the gift of grace that God has handed down to His disciples for generations. We begin each service with singing, invoking the presence of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, listening to the Word and a weekly Gospel message, and end the service with a blessing and a song and enter back into the world with praise in our hearts.”

What's the music like?

Our music is traditional, led by organ or piano. We choose songs that both support our foundational beliefs and reflect the Word being proclaimed on that day. If the hymns are unfamiliar, feel free to simply listen and enjoy!

How do people dress?

We want you to be comfortable, so come as you are. Dress tends to be modest and casual. Depending on the weather, people wear jeans or shorts, etc.

Can I take communion?

During communion, we believe that we receive, in, with, and under the bread and wine, the true body and blood of Christ shed on the cross. We invite members of other LCMS congregations to join us at the table.

COMMUNION POLICY

All confirmed members of Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregations are welcome to commune with us. These are those who believe and confess:

  • That Jesus Christ is their Lord, and their only Savior from Sin, Satan, and death,
  • That the Risen Christ is really present in the Sacrament, and that in, with, and under the bread and wine they receive His true Body and Blood
  • That in the Sacrament they are joined to all who commune at the altar as well as their beliefs
  • That through the eating and drinking of Christ’s Body and Blood they receive forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation

Oneness at the altar requires oneness in doctrine, faith, and life (Acts 2:42).  Therefore, “Let each person examine himself, and thus eat of the bread and drink of the cup” (1 Corinthians 11:28)

Visitors and Guests - please speak with the Pastor or an Elder before the worship service.

How can I get connected?

There are many ways to connect with us through worship, bible study, or community events, but the best way is to become a member. As a member you can get involved in a ministry where you can serve others with your particular gifts, talents, and experiences. If you want to become a member, speak with the pastor on Sunday morning to express your desire, and he will arrange a time to meet with you.

What can you do today to stay connected? Like our Facebook page @SalemColoma and bookmark this website. You will find daily devotions, past services, and current events so you’ll know what we’re up to during the week.

Find us in the community: We participate in the Glad-Peach Festival by providing an outdoor movie, and we also provide a meal for the community at the Knights of Columbus Hall around Easter in cooperation with other community organizations.

Join us for other church events. There are times during the year when we take some time to hang out together and simply build friendships. Join us for picnics, chicken dinners, Advent and Lenten meals, Trunk or Treat, and other events throughout the year.

Where do I enter for worship?

We invite you to park in the church parking lot or along the street near our church sign. There are handicap spaces in the parking lot for those who need them. Before worship, both the glass doors by our church sign and the wooden doors under the carport will be open.

If you need to drop off someone from your household at the door, please do so under our carport next to the parking lot.
